The LeMieux Vector Stirrups are a new generation of stirrups – technically advanced and lightweight yet retaining the classic style expected from LeMieux. Constructed from aviation-grade aluminum, the stirrups offer an impressive strength-to-weight ratio, with each weighing just 419g, making them lighter than most stirrups on the market without compromising on stability. The Control Stirrup's ergonomic footplate is set at 0 degrees and features a cross-track grip surface with embedded hardened steel pins to ensure maximum boot security. The footplate is supported by a twin-balance arch system that distributes weight evenly across the base of the stirrup frame. The apex of the frame is recessed and offset, allowing for a 45˚ outward alignment, which makes it easier for the rider to find the optimum foot angle and regain a lost stirrup. An integrated articulated arm features a two-stage release system, preventing accidental opening. The spring-loaded arm locks into the base of the main frame, meaning the rider's weight is evenly distributed across the stirrup under maximum pressure, such as landing over a fence, preventing downward collapse and outward flexion. When pressure is applied to the stirrup arm, the arm gives way, allowing the foot to come out of the stirrup and minimizing the risk of getting stuck. The breakaway force of the stirrup arm was tested at 36 N (equivalent to 3.62 kg), meaning the resistance is strong enough to prevent accidental opening but will release when required. It is important to note that no stirrup of this design (with quick-release arm) will 100% release in the event of a fall. There are several factors, such as a horse falling, a loose girth causing the saddle to slip, and a slow or unusual exit angle that may not generate enough sideways force to open the release arm. This is very rare, but users must be aware that no stirrup is absolutely foolproof in every instance.
