Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the best materials. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt Bradoon single jointed locked 12mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt Bradoon single jointed locked 12mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheekpieces as a bradoon for weymouth bridles. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it locks when rein pressure is applied. The bit has a size of 12.5 centimeters. The 12.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a rather thin mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
Bradoons for weymouth bridles usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been designed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
About the manufacturer
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are constantly being developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality controlled.
Mouthpiece
Locked
The locked mouthpiece resembles a single-jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single-jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back to a single-jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean on the hand. The locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Cheekpiece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to one centimeter larger than the weymouth bit, as the weymouth bit is a straight bar and the bradoon is jointed.
