The bit range from Trust Equestrian provides soft but effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Loose Ring Bradoon French Link Copper Plate from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail today:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Loose Ring Bradoon French Link Copper Plate is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheek pieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a French Link, which means an eight-shaped plate as the center piece of a double-jointed mouthpiece.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at its widest point in the horse's commissures. It is therefore a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bradoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms upon contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
French Link
The French Link mouthpiece has two hinge points and an eight-shaped plate in the center, which applies even pressure to the tongue. This mouthpiece is double-jointed, more shaped to the mouth, and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth.
Cheek Piece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., loose ring), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a full centimeter larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a straight bar and the bradoon is jointed.
